Why to Focus on What You’re Doing, Not How You’re Looking

One thing I wish more people understood was that when you emphasize the functionality of your body over appearance, you are more likely to eat according to your body’s internal cues.

What does that mean?

It means when you are more in tune with your physical self and how you move and go about your day (exercising, walking, working, doing chores, cooking, cleaning, gardening, playing, etc) you are more likely to focus on your needs and listen to your body instead of put so much weight into your appearance.

See, when you eat according to your appearance, you are inherently ignoring your body’s internal cues. The two aren’t necessarily linked, so paying attention to one means you have to not pay attention to the other.

With my clients, once we started focusing on body functionality rather than body appearance, they noticed they were having more “success” and making more progress in their goals (body related and otherwise) compared to when they were just thinking about their body.

Once you shift your focus from what your body looks like to what it can do, things will change.

This is because ⤵️

✔️ You’re focusing more on how you feel and are more in tune with yourself and your needs

✔️Your energy is being used in the right places

✔️ You are more likely to make decisions based on feeling rather than appearance and that can have a whole lotta positive impacts on your health!

It’s hard when we have been conditioned to only focus on the way we look. You can break through this!

I go back to my favorite saying: “focus on what you are doing, rather than what you look like doing it.”
