I chat with a lot of people about what I can do for them as a registered dietitian. Somewhere in the conversation, it comes to them saying “I just want someone to tell me what to eat!”
And I get it. Especially today where we get all of our information from social media – I should clarify that to say all of our ‘conflicting’ information – it can seem so murky and ever-changing when we are trying to figure out what to do. I bet you doubt yourself constantly when you hear what you should be doing one day then the complete opposite the next.
The truth is, there is no wrong or right way to eat. That’s not to say there aren’t things you might be able to improve upon; what I mean is there is no ‘perfect’ way to eat. So, if you are looking for someone to tell you what to do, I can’t be that person. Because that will not help you. And all I want to do is help!
So, if I can’t tell you what to eat or when to eat, what do I even do?
I tell you how to change the way you think about what to eat. Something that is crystal clear to me after counseling 100+ clients this past year, is that it’s not what you eat, but how you think about eating and behave around food. If you can change the way you are thinking, you will be able to change the behaviors you want to. Permanently!
Or, you may change your thinking and realize that what you were thinking before isn’t actually so bad. Or the way you are eating is actually pretty good and works well for you. Or the way you look is just fine and it actually doesn’t matter to you whether or not you fit into society’s ideals.
So that’s what I can do for you. And I promise it’s more powerful than giving you a meal plan 🙂
