Do You Have Diet FOMO?

Do you have it?

If you’ve been a chronic dieter, I bet you can relate to the fact that starting a diet is kind of thrilling.

The prospect of a new lifestyle change or weight loss or accountability of something new is exciting and feels fresh!

You always feel like ✨this✨ will be it. This will be the time. This is the key. The answer. This time you’ll stick to it. This time it’ll work. This time you will learn and become better. This time it will be different.

I’ve talked about dieting and control before, and it’s true that we often decide to embark on a new diet when something in our lives is awry and we want to try to feel more in control or turn our focus to something else.

So here’s what I mean by “Diet FOMO.”

Diet FOMO: the fear of missing out on the potential benefits that another diet might bring to you when you commit to intuitive eating and a non-diet mentality.

To be honest, there is always a fear of missing out associated with lots of things, not just dieting. But with something like dieting, it’s always promised to us that the secret lies right around the corner with the next new and best thing. So if we commit to only focusing on our intuitive eating selves then we let go of the idea that a new diet that’s lurking around the corner might work for us.

It can be scary to FULLY commit to ourselves, especially when we don’t have a great history of self-trust.

But if you achieve a healthy relationship with food and body and decide to live without food rules and let go of your restrictive mindset and adopt an abundance mindset, then how can you diet again?

You can’t because you’ll be finally and fully happy, content and confident!

Maybe that’s scary to you. The idea of full self-trust. It’s something I strive for with each and every one of my clients.
