Stop over eating at night after “being good” all day.
If you are someone that tries to moderate your eating during the day but often find you are unsatisfied, experiencing cravings or simply not eating enough to get you to your next meal – this is not a strategy! You need to level out your hunger so you can stop experiencing these highs and lows.
This is a problem that many, many (probably all) of my clients struggle with. Waking up in the morning saying, “I’m going to be so good today.” Then eating a small breakfast (if any at all), a salad for lunch, another coffee when the afternoon sugar craving hits, and then nothing before leaving work. This causes overeating at night for many reasons.
- You are hungry by the time you arrive home because you haven’t eaten enough.
- You are relaxed once you walk in the door, alleviating stress.
- You have access to more food than you have all day.
- You aren’t as focused on being “good” as you might be thinking about other things or interacting with family members.
How can I help you with overeating at night? Here are some easy suggestions.
Eat more frequently if you are able. Plain and simple. Eat more frequently throughout the day. Bring more food.
If you can’t eat more frequently, eat more at each meal by adding one of these: lean protein, fiber or healthy fat.
If you can’t eat more often or feel like you don’t want to take on adding to each meal, at least prioritize a bigger breakfast or lunch. Don’t tell me you don’t have time for either of those, you need to make time to prioritize at least one if this is something you are struggling with!
Lean proteins, fiber foods and healthy fats will improve staying power and provide calories. Hopefully you will find yourself not walking in the door and running to the kitchen as often as you do now.
Would love to know if this helps!
